KIMBERLEY PROVINCIAL HOSPITAL PAEDIATRIC ICU
KIMBERLEY NORTHERN CAPE
- PROJECT COMPLETION
2012 - PROJECT VALUE
R 9 million
The entire unit had to be designed within the super structure of the existing hospital building. However, the area constraints provoked an innovative design approach, not only being practical, but also creating a playful yet relaxed health environment.
The interior design concept of the unit was based on the use of free forms in order to enhance the illusion of space. The central circular nurse station allows for easy and free movement of nursing staff and provides direct supervision on all six ICU beds, the entrances to the unit as well as the supporting services. Circular patterns featured conceptually in the floor, walls and ceiling compliments not only the lively, but also the composed elements of the surroundings.
