Frere Hospital is an existing Level III hospital rendering both level I & II services. The Frere Oncology Project is the first major capital development to be implemented at the hospital in recent years and was seen as Part 1 in the complete upgrading and redevelopment of the entire Frere Hospital.

The project includes the establishment of a comprehensive clinical oncology unit on the site by way of decanting, reconfiguring and upgrading of a block of existing buildings. Throughout the construction period, the hospital and its services had to remain operational at all times and great care had to be taken to cause minimal possible disruptions to the functionality of the facility.
