VRYBURG DISTRICT HOSPITAL
VRYBURG, NORTH WEST
- PROJECT COMPLETION
2015 - PROJECT VALUE
R 260 million
In 2003 the Vryburg hospital project was set out by the Department of Public Works as an architectural competition for the design of a new health care facility with service quality improvement, application of internal best practices, the environmental impact and occupational health and safety as key factors. The total project entailed a new 120-bed hospital, a staff accommodation village and an EMS Department.
The hospital represents a fairly unique situation as it houses level 1 and 2 beds. The design solution met the above-mentioned needs whilst remaining economical on operational costs. Combining allied disciplines to form one nursing unit resulted in a unique ward footprint allowing for natural light and ventilation, good security and effective supervision. This in turn leads to an interesting compact hospital layout with allowance for future ward extensions without increasing walking distances or disrupting the daily service delivery.
